LifeSkills Training (LST) Program Grants

LifeSkills Training is a universal skill building/drug and violence prevention curriculum designed for all students in middle school (grades 6-8 or 7-9) and high school (grade 9 or 10). The programs are typically delivered by classroom teachers, but can also be delivered by other school staff, school resource officers, or mental health professionals. The middle school program is a three-year curriculum that contains 15 days of core lessons in Level 1, 10 days in Level 2, and 5 days in Level 3, plus optional violence prevention lessons. The high school program is a single-year curriculum that contains 10 sessions. LST aligns well with health topics, but can be taught in any class that is taken by all students, including advisory, social studies, English language arts, science, math, etc. The implementation area is determined by the school/district.

HIGH SCHOOL

Through funding from Altria Client Services, CSPV began helping schools/districts/educational agencies to  implement the LifeSkills Training High School program with fidelity starting fall 2020 in the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia. This grant covers costs to implement the LST program for two years, including teacher training, teacher stipends or substitute-teacher reimbursement for trainings, teacher manuals, and consumable student workbooks. The grant also includes program sustainability planning and attendance at a Training of Trainers workshop.

All sites were selected by the conclusion of the 2019-2020 school year, with implementation beginning in fall 2020.

Please see the Program Information page for documents describing the LST Program and its contents as well as a sample lesson.

MIDDLE SCHOOL

CSPV has received funding from Altria Client Services for a decade to help schools implement the LifeSkills Training middle school program. During the 2018-2019 school year, schools in the following states were invited to apply for this funding that started fall 2019: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia. This grant pays for costs to implement the LST program for three years.

Through funding from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE), CSPV has been helping schools in Colorado to implement the LifeSkills Training (LST) middle school program since fall 2018. This grant pays for costs to implement the LST program for four years.

Both LST middle school implementation grants include teacher training, teacher stipends or substitute-teacher reimbursement for trainings, teacher manuals, and consumable student workbooks as well as program sustainability planning and attendance at a Training of Trainers workshop. CSPV monitors program fidelity to ensure schools implement the program as designed, thereby increasing positive outcomes for students and schools.

Eligible applicants were school districts, individual schools, a group of schools from a district, or other educational/mental health agencies. The Funding Announcement and application documents from the grant that began providing middle school LST to 15 states in fall 2019 may be found below.
