CU Boulder Violence Prevention Program Featured in Human Kindness Initiative

CU Boulder’s Shakespeare & Violence Prevention Program was highlighted during the Human Kindness Initiative on Nov. 12, hosted by the Parent Engagement Network at New Vista High School. Professional actors performed an abridged version of Much Ado About Nothing, directed by CU Boulder Professor Kevin Rich, sparking discussions on using art to foster empathy and prevent violence. Panelists, including Beverly Kingston from CU Boulder’s Center for the Study and Prevention of Violence, emphasized the importance of community engagement and “upstander” behavior to shape a culture of safety and support for youth. This initiative, which has reached over 140,000 Colorado students since 2011, combines live theater with actionable violence prevention strategies and will soon expand its impact with a practical handbook for educators.
